Bellow compensators for the most powerful fast research reactor in the world

Multifunctional fast research reactor (MFRR) – one of the priority projects of ROSATOM Corporation, the aim of which is to save and strengthen leading position of Russia in the technical field of atomic energetics. This status can be ensured only by development of experimental base for the performance of perspective innovation research. 

In the words of NIIAR Deputy Director on constructed objects Sergey Kiverov, at present the scope of construction works at the MFRR site is 10 % performed. At that, there is planned acceleration of construction speed and volume, and increase of personnel, occupied at the construction.  

Parallel to the construction there is preparation for erection of main equipment in progress.  Reactor vessel, produced by AEM-technologies Company, complexly tested at the manufacturer’s site.

For this project specialists of Industrial department of Kronshtadt Company executed design works.  Manufacturing and delivery of specialized compensator equipment was performed. 

Set of compensators for compensation of thermal expansion of reactor unit main blocks was produced in accordance with the 2nd , 3rd and 4th  safety class acc.to Norms and Regulations-033-11 "General provisions on safety of nuclear research units".

Some of compensators are purposed for the installation directly on the reactor circuits, other equipment is to be installed in coolant circulation system. The largest compensator, mounted on the reactor circuit, is 3400 mm in diameter, and is a unique technical solution, ensuring high elasticity figures at its rather impressive dimensions.

By present moment compensator equipment, delivered by specialists of Kronshtadt Company, passed multiple tests and checks, both at the level of material supply and within control tests and assemblies.
